Application Guide

How to Apply CoolCote

CoolCote is a two-step system — a required CoolCote Primer coat followed by ONE finish coat — applied over assessed, prepared exterior walls. Here is the full sequence from first evaluation to finished coating.

The complete sequence

Six steps. Two coats.

01

Assess the building first

Every CoolCote project starts with a surface review. Compatible stucco, concrete, and masonry surfaces are confirmed, existing coatings and condition are evaluated, and suitability is documented before anything is ordered. A professional Thermalizr assessment adds measured surface and interior readings you can compare after the work.

02

Prepare the surface

Walls are cleaned and brought to a sound, compatible condition. Damaged coatings, cracks, and adhesion concerns are addressed before coating begins. CoolCote is not a structural repair and not a waterproofing membrane — substrate issues are resolved first, not covered up.

03

Plan the material quantities

CoolCote is a two-step system: one required CoolCote Primer coat, then ONE CoolCote finish coat. One finish bucket covers approximately 500–625 sq. ft., and that same area needs approximately 2.5–3.125 gallons of primer. Actual consumption depends on substrate, texture, preparation, and application losses.

04

Apply CoolCote Primer

The dedicated CoolCote Primer is applied after preparation, at approximately 200 sq. ft. per gallon. This required step ties the system to the substrate and creates the consistent base the finish coat is designed for.

05

Apply ONE CoolCote finish coat

The CoolCote finish coat goes on at approximately 100–125 sq. ft. per gallon — one coat is the specified system. Applying it at the specified spread rate is what delivers the engineered ceramic + mineral cooling performance.

06

Inspect and document

The completed coating is inspected for consistent coverage, and the project is documented with dated photographs. For measured results, a follow-up Thermalizr-style observation compares after-coating surface and interior readings against the before-coating records.

Project-specific guidance — substrates, preparation products, priming of repairs, weather conditions, and equipment — comes from the surface assessment and current technical documentation. Coverage figures are approximate planning numbers, not guaranteed yields.

The two-step system

What goes on the wall, in order

COAT 1 · REQUIRED

CoolCote Primer

One primer coat over prepared surfaces. Approximately 200 sq. ft. per gallon — plan on 2.5–3.125 gallons of primer for every finish bucket's worth of wall.

COAT 2 · ONE FINISH COAT

CoolCote finish coat

Approximately 100–125 sq. ft. per gallon, or 500–625 sq. ft. per five-gallon bucket. The system is specified as ONE finish coat, applied at the specified spread rate.
